EU invites citizens to join net neutrality discussion
Following the footsteps of countries such as Canada, the United States and the UK, the European Union has released a net neutrality inquiry, inviting users to join the debate on the open internet in Europe.
“We need input from all sides so we can examine all the issues carefully, in a very objective way, strike the right balance between all the interests involved and work out what new measures, if any, may be needed,” said EU Commisioner Neelie Kroes.
The main issues addressed in the inquiry encompass the open internet and the end-to-end principle, traffic management and discrimination, the market structure, quality of service for consumers, and the political, cultural and social participation of European citizens.
